Jeff started playing drums at 9 years of age in Long Island, New York. Over the next few years, he studied with several renowned instructors including Henry Gates, Richard Meisler and Al Miller covering all aspects of drumming including Orchestral Percussion, Marching Percussion, Latin/Ethnic instruments and Drum Set methods. His father was a pioneer of miniature electronics coordinating the development and production of the modern day hearing-aid and gauges used by NASA for space travel.
At Hofstra University, he studied Electronic Music Techniques with the Herbert Deutsch, co-founder of the Moog synthesizer. This included creating musical compositions on one of the original modular analogue synthesizers developed in the late 1960s using individual patch cords to connect separate sound generators, oscillators, filters and sound shaping electronics.
As the principal percussionist for ‘The Hofstra University Symphony Orchestra’ Jeff has performed on tympani and classical percussion instruments in many concert halls including the Eastman Conservatory of Music. He has been a member of the ‘pit orchestra’ for many musical productions such as ‘Bye Bye Birdie’, ‘Brigadoon’, ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Carousel’.
He has performed with many musical groups and ensembles. He currently performs with several bands in the New York/New Jersey area and takes on other projects as an independent.
Jeff is also a published freelance writer for Modern Drummer Magazine.
